When I did the math, the return on investment after rebates for panels was well under 10% and that was if nothing broke down! Now that Applied Materials and some other big companies are getting into the act, hopefully prices will come down. If you would like to do this be aware that you need to wait at least 7 months because the silicone that is used in the panels is hard to manufacture. The benefits and tax deductions can save you thousands of dollars. You can sell the unused power back to PG&E so your bill can be zero. Get a company that is based in your area. We went through Home Depot. I think it's a great idea. Growing up, my uncle was a plumber and he made his own solar-powered contraption out of leftover pipes, etc. to heat the water in his pool and house.
