I need to know what materials, and how to build it

Active or passive?
Solar thermal or solar electric?

Start by answering those questions and the answer can be any combination of all or one of them.
Passive collects (and stores) energy but does not convert light ot electric. Active goes from light to electric or thermal as in hot water.
Here are some of the materials.
For passive, create collectors , windows, skylights etc, have the light shine of heavy dense materials like rocks, brick, ceramic tiles to store the heat of the sun.
Solar electric you will need some solar collectors, batteries, power efficient devices (which would use the stored electricity)
Solar thermal usually uses (black) panels to heat up in the sun and water runs through them heating up as it goes.

I finished the greenhouse today. The greenhouse is made from mostly recycled materials. I used discarded sliding patio doors for the glass, a screen door from Freecycle.com, 4″ stone floor, concrete patio planters for containers. The soil is 100% organic and my hopes are to provide at least a salad a day for the rest of my life, organic of course. The music playing is Wayana (sp?) on a rummage sale CD player that’s running off of the sun through 3 solar panels into a car battery, then through an inverter. It’s the first day for the solar panels. If I used an Ipod, I could power 50 -100 of them with what the old CD player is using. That would leave lots of electricity to power a laptop, the router, cable modem and printer and 12 volt florescent lights. Even the batteries in the digital camera can be recharged by using the solar panels. I’ve just discovered LED flashlights with batteries also rechargable off of the sun.

Just wondering? I would love to save money, and by getting a solar panel..seems the way to go, is it possible??

You need the Landlords permission before you do any work in a rented property. Solar panels are expensive to install and just one is not effective enough to make any noticeable savings which will take about 7 years to recoup the expense for the installation alone.
